PDF script import

From script file to scenes and roles

Import the PDF you already have, review the detected structure and move into rehearsal without recording every opposite line.

Start hereAction imports PDF scripts from Files, extracts text, identifies scenes, characters and dialogue, and keeps a copy of the source for the project. You review the result before choosing a role and generating rehearsal.

The input and output

Start with a text-based PDF script or audition-side file. Action reads the document layout and text, creates a project, separates scenes and builds the character list.

The output is not a new screenplay file. It is a rehearsal-ready project with scenes, roles, dialogue and a transcript you can review.

The import workflow

  • Choose the PDF from Files or open it into Action.
  • Let the app scan the script and create the project.
  • Review the detected title, scenes, characters and dialogue.
  • Correct or rescan when the source layout has produced a mistake.
  • Choose your role, assign voices and begin the rehearsal.

Example: four-page audition sides

Import the casting PDF and check that page headers, scene headings and character cues have not become dialogue. Confirm the role you are reading and the characters Action will speak.

Use the first generated rehearsal as a structural test. If a cue or role is wrong, fix the transcript or source before doing repeated line work.

PDF layout still matters

Scripts are exported by many tools and scanned pages may not contain usable text. Complex columns, unusual cue placement and image-only PDFs can reduce automatic accuracy. Action preserves review and rescan paths because the actor should confirm the text before relying on it.

Put another voice in the scene
